30 Years of Barleta – A Romanian story of hard work, trust, and dreams come true

On 25 November 1994, in a small 30 m² garage, seven friends with big hearts and great courage embarked on an entrepreneurial adventure called Barleta. Without guarantees but driven by passion, they took their first steps in business, dreaming of building a 100% Romanian company, sustainable and reliable.

The journey was not easy. The first attempts, including a failed international collaboration, cost them money and time but offered a valuable lesson: nothing lasting is built overnight. In 1996, Barleta found its right direction with the purchase of its first paper bag-making machine — which is still running today. It was the start of an impressive journey.

Years of huge efforts followed: thousands of trips across the country, face-to-face presentations, working in two shifts, expanding the team, moving into a 13,500 m² factory and, in 2007, making a bold decision — a major investment in modern machinery, just before the economic crisis. It was a bet on the future, on quality, and on the people behind the story.

Today, Barleta means over 250 employees, 600 million packages produced annually, 25 countries we supply regularly, and 18 billion bags manufactured over 30 years. In other words: we have created 2 bags for every inhabitant of the planet. If lined up, they would circle the Earth five times.

But what truly makes us proud are not just the numbers, but the values that define us: loyalty, responsibility, family spirit, care for the environment, and a firm commitment to quality.

Today, 100% of our production waste is collected and sorted for recycling. Over 60% of our energy needs are covered from renewable sources, and all our products are made from certified, biodegradable, and compostable paper.

Behind every success are people. Three generations work together at Barleta today, and that says everything about our family spirit and continuity.
